Umpiring is a huge part of the game of hockey.  Many people tend to forget, if you don't have 2 umpires on the field-you don't have a game!  Therefore, Baulkham Hills is dedicated to supporting our umpires and supplying trainees to learn how to umpire.

Baulkham Hills takes great pride in not only providing numerous umpires to fill all their commitments at Parramatta and Sydney Women's each week, but also providing top quality umpires who have reached a national level.  Amongst the umpires we have at Baulko, we have one Australian badged, one state A badged and 2 state B badged umpires.  Two of our umpires are also umpire coaches for the Parramatta association and for Hockey NSW.

When learning to umpire, trainees are coached in a one-on-one, hands on environment.  Each trainee has an umpire coach with them as they learn the rules and gain confidence.  Once they have reached a level where we believe they are capable of umpiring by themselves they are coached from a distance and given feedback on their games.  There is a dedicated pathway structured by Hockey Australia which provides more information on umpire training and career paths.

Baulkham Hills has provided umpires, umpire managers and umpire coaches for all State Championships (under 13, under 15, under 18, State Opens, State League and Vets), World Master's Games, many national championships and local competitions.

The rules of outdoor field hockey umpiring are updated regularly and quite often experimental rules are brought in during each publication.

Indoor is also a great game to umpire - a lot faster, on floorboards with only 6 players a side, it has a different set of rules.  Baulkham Hills has provided umpires and umpire coaches for state championships and one of our umpires is also a national indoor umpire.
